Review: Chanel Les 4 Ombres in 308 Clair Obscur

I’ve finally done it. I’ve found my perfect every day basic nude eyeshadow palette, and it comes in the form of Chanel’s latest Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow quad in 308 Clair Obscur.

Released as part of the brand’s Le Mat de Chanel fall/winter 2018 collection, Clair Obscur comes in a limited edition matte-black compact and features four not-too-cool, not-too-warm eyeshadow shades.

Believe it or not, this is my first Chanel eyeshadow quad. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the formula, but I was pleasantly surprised. The shadows are all super creamy and bendable, and have a great amount of colour payoff.

While the shades are meant to be matte, I’d say they’re more of a satin finish (which I actually LOVE). The top two shades in the palette are perfect for deepening the crease, while the lightest and darkest shades help illuminate and intensify respectively. I personally like to use the top right shade right in my crease, the lightest shade on my lid, the top left shade in the outer-v and the darkest shade with a liner brush along the lash line.

The reason it’s taken me so long to try Chanel eyeshadow is really that none of the palettes really stood out to me. But this quad checks all the boxes. It’s perfect for every day, but with a little sparkle you could take it easily from day to night. I’m actually loving this so much that I’ve been considering getting a back up, especially if it’s limited edition!

Are there any other Chanel quads that I should be checking out? Let me know in the comments below! A++ Chanel, you’ve knocked my socks off!
