Review: LANEIGE BB Cushion Hydra Radiance SPF 50

Korea has been at the forefront of beauty for years – they were the first to market BB cream, and cushion foundation. So of course my first my first experience with a cushion foundation had to come in the form of a BB cream and from one of the most popular Korean beauty brands out there – LANEIGE. I’m talking the LANEIGE BB Cushion Hydra Radiance with SPF 50.

I’ve always been a big fan of LANEIGE, and as soon as I heard they had a cushion BB cream I knew I would be putting it to the test – the fact that it also claimed to by hydrating and had SPF 50 was just a bonus.

If you haven’t heard of a cushion foundation before, let me explain. The whole purpose of it is to be travel friendly – something you can easily take with you and apply on the go. The cushion compact comes with its own mirror and sponge. When you open the cap to the product, you’ll notice a cushion filled with the foundation – you simply dab your sponge on the cushion and apply to your face.

Some people complain that they go through cushion foundations too quickly, or that they dry up. But a little tip I found was that when you feel like your cushion is running low, to flip it over and you’ll get even more product that had just settled to the bottom.

LANEIGE’s BB Cushion is a hydrating formula is infused the brand’s Melacrusher™ technology which brightens skin, as well as micro pearls and moisturizer for long-lasting hydration and luminosity.

I purchased the shade 21 – Beige, but there’s only six shades available which is kind of a bummer. The product definitely applies like a BB cream, with a light coverage that can be built up. I personally like to apply this with my damp beauty blender and leave the sponge that it comes with for on-the-go touch ups. I don’t typically feel like I have to touch up much during the day, but I wouldn’t say that this is particularly long wearing. I do like it for an every-day look though that’s quick and does the job.

One of the best things about this product is the price. For what I would consider a high-end product, you’re only paying $49CAD and that includes a cushion refill! To refill the product simply use  your thump to pop out the foundation cartridge from below and snap in the new one. Definitely worth the money if you ask me!

So what would I rate this product? I would probably give it an A – it’s a fabulous cushion compact. It feels lux, and the product is fantastic, but do I like it better than some of my favourite non-cushion foundations or BB creams? No. If you love cushions, or want to try out some K-beauty I would definitely recommend, and I think I’ll definitely be repurchasing this as my on-the-go foundation product for the foreseeable future. Great job LANEIGE!
