Review: Shiseido Ibuki Smart Filtering Smoother

IMG_7762

I’ve been a long time fan of Shiseido, so when Influenster sent me their latest complimentary VoxBox, I knew I was in for a treat. The box was sent out to promote the brand’s latest addition to the Ibuki range, the Smart Filtering Smoother Serum.

This is a really unique product. You’re meant to apply the serum as the last step of your skincare routine, and the formula is super lightweight and absorbs really quickly. The serum acts as a “smart filter”, blurring pores, absorbing oil and leaving skin with a matte finish.

While I like the way this formula applies, and the blurring effect it leaves me with, I’m not a huge fan of the matte component. In fact, I find that this tends to accentuate my dry patches, and make my makeup break up around my nose.

Let’s be clear, this is not a primer, but if I’m going to be wearing this under my makeup (or even over it for that matter), I want it to blend seamlessly. I think I’ll still continue to use this around where my pores are more visible, but this wouldn’t be my first choice.

In true Influenster form, this box didn’t just come with one product. it also included deluxe samples of the Ibuki Quick Fix Mist (which admittedly I’ve tried before and don’t love) and the Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate. The Power Infusing Concentrate is the true star of the show here, in my opinion. It’s a pre-treatment serum that combines Bulgarian rose water, aqua in pool, yeast extract, gingko biloba leaf extract, shiso, and thyme to give skin a brighter, softer and more hydrated appearance.

When it comes to the Smart Filtering Smoother, I’d have to give this a B-, the Power Infusing Concentrate, however, gets a solid A!

Have you tried any of these Shiseido products? Let me know your thoughts!
