At first I didn’t get the hype about primers. I wasn’t really sure what they were for – why does my skin need to be primed before I put on makeup?
It wasn’t until I discovered the Too Faced Hangover RX Replenishing Face Primer that I truly understood the meaning of priming your face. Creating a fresh, smooth (and glowy if you’re anything like me) canvas for applying your makeup.
That said, not all primers are created equal.
First of my favourite primers is, you guessed it, the Too Faced Hangover RX Primer. This primer is excellent for an added boost of moisture. It’s super lightweight and smells of coconuts, which is one of the key ingredients that help to hydrate your skin. I love this primer when my skin is feeling extra dehydrated and dull. It doesn’t necessarily make my makeup last hours longer, but it makes the application process a hundred times easier.
Next up is a relatively recent purchase, and comes in the form of a drugstore primer. It’s the L’oreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer. This primer is fabulously glowy. I LOVE dewy skin, so this primer is perfect for mixing in with more matte foundations. Not to mention it doesn’t break the bank!
Finally, and probably my number one primer, is the Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer – Redness Correcting Primer. It’s no secret that I have dry, red, irritated skin. I’ve had it for as long as I can remember, and this primer truly is the only thing that helps mask the redness. It’s green, so it counteracts any red tones on my skin, but it also hydrates and smooths out my complexion. I like to use this primer on the centre of my face, around my nose, chin, and well, wherever the redness might be. Of all of my primers, this one also helps keep my makeup in place. In my opinion, it extends the life of my foundation for at least a few hours!
